Yvonne Egberink is the author of My Voice Lives Here, originally published in the Netherlands as Mijn stem woont hier.

Some children grow up in a place that is not their family of origin. They miss the people they love, they try to find their way in unfamiliar surroundings, and they carry feelings that are not always visible to others.

​

Through her personal experiences with foster care, Yvonne came to understand how important it is for children not only to be cared for and protected, but also to be truly heard.

​

With My Voice Lives Here, she hopes to help children find words for feelings that can sometimes be difficult to express. The book invites children and the adults that care for them to talk about loss, belonging, loyalty, and the people who remain important, even when they no longer live together.

​

Yvonne believes that children should never have to choose whom they are allowed to love, and that listening to a child means more than simply hearing their words. It means taking their feelings, needs, and wishes seriously.

​

Because every child has a voice. And every voice deserves to be heard.
